I picked up a bottle of 2008 Roots Epic Ale at the Healthy Spirits annual beer club cellar sale (earlier this year) and I've been sitting on it ever since. For those keeping score, it is Series #4, Bottle #264. Something about tonight made it a "raid the cellar" night. Not a hard day or anything. It just felt right. It had been a while since I pulled something. And boy am I happy that I pulled out this bottle. It is really special. It's a dark, caramely fruit bomb. Maybe a little high in sugars but not overly.
The only thing sad about drinking this beer is in knowing that there are very few bottles left out there in the wild after Roots closed up shop in 2010. If you come across a reasonably priced bottle of 2008 or 2009, don't hesitate to pick one up.
