Beer of the Month Club. The wonderful promise of exposing you to beer of craft brewers from far flung corners of the globe. One part great idea...and sometimes, one part masochistic slog through more beer than someone can reasonably drink. This, of course, is only exacerbated by your burning desire to pick up one or two extra beers when you go to the store to pick up that month's distribution of BoM. Not just any beer. Something special. Something you'll put in the fridge and stare at and read about online and plan ahead to have with a certain meal or with a certain friend.
This, my friends, is where beer of the month interacts with beer enthusiasm in a really special way. A way that says, "$14 for that 12oz bottle of Mikkeller, well, okay. Let's throw that and one of those other ones over there on the bill. There's plenty of room in the fridge to hold onto beer that's not likely to be drank soon."
And that is how my refrigerator has become a shrunken version of a craft beer store. Only, the guys at the craft beer store probably don't hear from their wives that the beer is getting in the way of, oh I don't know, extraneous stuff...like milk and butter.
